Sweet Nostalgia – The Pond House Café

When visiting my family home in Connecticut, the Pond House Café in West Hartford has become a go-to place for my sisters, my mother, and me to enjoy a late afternoon lunch. No matter what is going on in our lives, the nostalgia we feel dining in this cozy Café next to a small pond in Elizabeth Park makes us happy. We purr like kittens after eating a delicious seasonal lunch made with fresh, organic ingredients from a vegetable and herb garden just outside the Café.

Our favorite dishes on the menu include a side of Mac and Cheese and Sweet Potato Fries, the California Grilled Cheese sandwich made with applewood smoked bacon, avocado, Havarti cheese, chili lime aioli, arugula, country bread, and the Corned Beef Reuben made with corned beef, marbled rye, house-made sauerkraut, Swiss cheese, thousand island dressing. Good old New England comfort food, not very healthy, but mighty delicious.

Inside the Pond House Cafe

Open only during the Dog Days of Summer, the “Dog House,” has a take-out window where you can order tasty treats for themselves and their pooch. I love the sense of humor displayed in the decor of the “Dog House.”

Just outside the Café is a small garden decorated with a painted door with a nine-pane window and flower box. Made me smile.
