California is rich with authentic Mexican restaurants. Our favorite spot for that “get away” feeling and great Mexican food is Pedro’s Cantina in Santa Clara, California. The patio dining area has views to gorgeous Spanish-style architecture with red doors, flower gardens, and palm trees. It’s a dog-friendly place, so we love to bring our dog, Buddy, for a relaxing lunch on the patio.
According to their website, Pedro’s started out on a shoestring budget in the town of Los Gatos on November 29, 1972, with a twelve-table restaurant which developed an immediate following. The Santa Clara Cantina opened its doors on May 13, 1980. We’ve been dining at Pedro’s for over 20 years.
Please enjoy a few photos of this lovely cantina and if you are in the area, give the place a try, the carnitas tacos and many other dishes are delicious.

Now 2 1/2 years ago we moved from Southern Calif. to the area of Sacramento and have already been been to San Fran 4 times to go to the airport., so I appreciate your post,to get to know some good places to eat:) Love the view of this restaurant!
Thanks. The Sacramento area is nice! Not too far from the Bay Area or Tahoe. If you have favorite places in Sacramento, I’d love to hear about them.
There’s one place we like that has great crepes throughout the day (one is enough for a lunch!), savory as well as sweet. It’s called Daniella’s Creperie. In the area of Watt’s Blvd.
Thanks. Sounds delicious. My husband loves the sweet ones with Nutella. We’ll give it a try when up in Sacramento.
Pedro’s! I haven’t been to the one in Santa Clara in years or the one in Los Gatos either for that matter. Years ago before my BFF moved out of state we’d walk the par course from Campbell to LG and have lunch once a week. Often we picked Pedro’s then walk it off or try to on the way back to Campbell. 🙂
Our (my families) favorite Mexican “sit-down and get service” place is in the Pruneyard; El Burro’s. I imagine you’ve been there. 🙂
The courtyard and your door images are lovely!
Pedro’s is a great spot for a late lunch/early dinner on the weekend. It’s usually quiet on the patio. We haven’t been to El Burro’s and appreciate the reco. Can’t wait to try it. Thanks so much!
🙂 Hope you like El Burro’s as much as we do!
Me too! Can’t wait to try El Burro’s.
Well this is definitely my kind of place! Great photos!
Thanks so much!
Nice all around, doors and all. 🙂

Thank you so much, Janet.
I think I and Pedro can become friends
Good amigos for sure!
