Typical of New England mills, the Collins Company axe factory was sited on a river (the Farmington). The company closed its doors in 1966, but the factory buildings remain and are now rented out to local businesses. Some aspects of the buildings have fallen into disrepair, like the missing wooden deck structure outside the blue door. I sure hope no one tries to use that door as a fire exit.

Thank you, Janet. The Axe Factory must have been busy in its day. There are quite a few buildings in the complex, most of them painted that dark shade of red. I’m happy that the town has kept up this historic property.
