Port Townsend Doors – The Former Clam Cannery

The moment I laid eyes on it, I fell in love with the former Clam Cannery’s gorgeous front façade with its antique wooden door. It was the vibrant teal color surrounding the door that first caught my eye. Originally built in 1885 as a storage facility for Waterman & Katz, it was later used as a Clam Cannery. It fell into disrepair for many years and was renovated early 2000’s. The building is now a private residence.

    1. It sure is a beauty. Port Townsend is a lovely seaside town. We did a road trip last August from the SF Bay Area to the Bellingham area of northern WA and did a quick tour of the Olympic Peninsula. It was one of our first ventures outside of our COVID bubble. Such a beautiful state. We plan to go back after Washington’s rainy season and spend more time in Port Townsend and Seattle.

  1. I’ve been through Port Townsend numerous times. I love the thick timbers used in the construction of the overhang. I always enjoy photos from the Pacific Northwest – thanks for sharing this one with Thursday Doors – I love it!

    1. How were you so lucky to go through Port Townsend numerous times? Washington State is phenomenally beautiful. My family and I lived in Bellevue outside of Seattle for a year when I was in Junior High School and have many fond memories of all the places we visited. My husband and I did a road trip from the SF Bay Area up to northern WA this past July. We spent a day exploring the Olympic Peninsula. Definitely not enough time to see everything on our wish list. I also flew to Seattle for a girls getaway weekend in August. Spent time in the Seattle area and Port Townsend on that trip. It was my first flight since COVID started. Stay tuned for more photos of beautiful WA.

      1. We visited the Olympic Peninsula often when I lived there, usually taking the ferry to Port Townsend, but driving down and around and up the Hood Canal a few times.

I look forward to your photos. I miss living there, but of course, I lived there before Microsoft, Amazon and Starbucks, so maybe my memory is better. I’ve been there since, and I can’t believe the traffic.

      2. Great place to have spent time. Yes! The Seattle traffic is horrendous. When I flew to Seattle last August for a girl’s getaway weekend, we took the Light Rail from the Airport to Capitol Hill. Very convenient. From Capitol Hill it’s easy to walk lots of places or take Light Rail. I’m looking forward to going back and spending more time on the Olympic Peninsula and Seattle.
