Be Greek for a Day – 2016
A great way to experience authentic Greek food and culture is at a local Greek festival. You’ll find traditional foods such as souvlaki, gyro, calamari, pastitsio, moussaka, and many other delicious dishes including a variety of vegetarian selections. Have fun watching Greek dancers dressed in traditional costumes perform a variety of folk dances to live Greek bands.
Greek Orthodox churches throughout the San Francisco Bay Area sponsor festivals between the months of May and September. Admission is either free or affordable. Check out the websites for the festivals listed below for details about admission fees, parking, food, music, dancing, and other Greek merriment.
May and June’s festivals are long gone, but you can find plenty more to attend in August and September. The festivals are held around the same time every year, so make a note on your calendar for next year if you missed one in your city.
