Filoli Gardens and Doors

Flowers lift the spirit & refresh the soul. -Martha Lever

For today’s Thursday Doors, join me on a Springtime stroll through Filoli Garden where Palladian-style windows and doors grace the Georgian Revival Historic House and outbuildings. The garden door in the featured image leads visitors from the Clock Tower Shop courtyard into gardens filled with tulips, pansies, hyacinths, wisteria, and other spring blooms. Arched gated openings in 10-foot high brick walls lead to the Walled Garden where clipped hedges are separated into many smaller ornamental gardens. A Sunken Garden facing the Clock Tower has a large rectangular water feature surrounded by pots of pansies. Facing away from the Clock Tower, one can see the expansive views to the hills that lead to the Pacific Ocean. No matter the season, Filoli Garden never disappoints the door and garden lover.

  1. The doors, buildings and gardens are lovely. These are great photographs. It looks like you picked the perfect time to capture the grounds. The first door is amazing. I really like the lower door that curves up into the Transom area. That is a work of an amazing craftsman.

    1. Thank you, Dan. I was lucky with partly cloudy skies that day, as well as, the time of year. Agree, the craftsmanship of that door is amazing. Love the aqua blue color of the doors. Filoli is my happy place.

    1. Thanks, Susan. If you ever do get a chance to visit Filoli, you will be happy you did. Springtime is best but anytime of year works for me. They post what’s in bloom on their website.
