Street Food in Athens

A winter chill is in the air in Athens. It’s the perfect time of year to enjoy roasted chestnuts and corn on the cob sprinkled with a little salt. Street vendors roast these tasty treats on portable grills on central street corners in the city.

While traditionally a winter treat, we’ve seen vendors selling grilled chestnuts and corn on the cob in the summer and fall months. For those of us that visit Greece in the warmer months, we are thrilled that they do.  Καλή όρεξη – Good appetite!

    1. A favorite of my husband’s when he lived in Athens as a child and young adult. It was an inexpensive, delicious treat in the cold winter months on his way home from school. It’s nice to see this traditional street food still lives on.
