A quirky house-shaped structure and doorway frame the entrance to a boardwalk over the Alviso Marina Park salt marsh. The boardwalk leads to the San Francisco Bay Trail and the Don Edwards San Francisco Bay National Wildlife Refuge, a favorite location for bird watching, hiking, and bike riding. On this evening visit, the sun’s golden glow highlighted the autumnal colors of the marshland. Tall grasses and milk thistle weeds danced to-and-fro under a light bay breeze. A handful of people strolled the boardwalks and trails. Before long, the sun fell to the horizon signaling it was time to go.
Inspiration: Thursday Doors.

I still can’t believe I never went there in 20 years! Whenever I visit you, I want to go!

I have fond memories of visiting San Francisco and wish I had come across this piece of magic, thanks for sharing!

The San Francisco Bay Area has lots of hidden gems. Maybe next time you are in the area you can squeeze in a visit to Alviso.

I would love to see the portal…

That’s one of the most interesting doors ever! Nicely done.

Thanks, Dan. These clever structures add interest to the otherwise flat marshland.

Yes that’s an original one and it’s a great way to keep folks on the trail too.

Thanks, Norm. They add an interesting vertical element to the flat marshland.

If I remember correctly, the doorways were modeled after the gates to the docks of the old marina. I can remember the old gates looking something like them.

Cool. I appreciate learning about the history of Alviso and the background behind these structures from you.

I wish I remembered more. It did not seem important to me when I was young.
