Those familiar with my blog know I have a thing for doors, abandoned buildings, and the interesting colors and textures that accompany them. Travel for me isn’t just about seeing major attractions, it’s also about paying attention to the subtle nuances of a place. It’s about finding beauty in the ordinary.
While visiting one of our homes away from home in Greece, Neapolis, I came across this work-in-progress renovation. Although it has a long way to go before an actual door is in place, I rather like the temporary door of brick, boards, and soft-teal netting. How about you?

That’s a great picture and a fine door (for the moment). I have been living with a work in progress all summer as we renovate my garage. You do what you have to do to keep stuff out (or in).

Very nice. It reminds me of a ghost door but it really does look like they actually intend to use it at some point.
“Ghost door,” I like that description. When we go back to Greece next time, I’ll take another picture. Let’s see if it’s still a ghost door a year later. 😀
I learned that term from Norm. There are many ghost doors and windows in Mexico. No longer needed? Just brick it up!

I’m sure there’s more to this than meets the eye because I’d have to guess that it would take less time and a LOT less effort to actually install a new door rather than block the opening with blocks. Hmmm…. 🙂
Really good point. We plan to stop by the house next year to see if a door replaced the bricks or if it remains “as is.” The house looked like a total gut job so I’m guessing the owners wanted to keep people and prying eyes out.
There should be a “smile” button as an option along with “like”. I love what you say about travel – seeing beauty in the ordinary. Great germinal door: a door about to be, just at the point of inception.
