For Norm Frampton’s weekly feature, Thursday Doors, I’m sharing a few more door and garden photos from a recent visit to Filoli Gardens in Woodside, California. You can find my original Filoli door post here and some pics of Percy, Filoli’s resident Peacock here. During this visit, Tulips and Daffodils bloomed in the gardens, a welcome sign of Spring’s arrival.

About Filoli:
Hidden in the foothills of Woodside, California, Filoli Gardens was created as a grand country estate for the wealthy Bourn family in the early 1900s. The name “Filoli” comes from the first two letters of “FIght- LOve-LIve.” Bourn’s credo was “To fight for a just cause; to love your fellow man; to live a good life.” These are worthy words to live by.
The estate features a 20th-century Georgian mansion, 16 acres of remarkable formal gardens, a Café and Gift Shop, and docent-led hikes through the estate’s nature preserve. Filoli is a not-for-profit organization that is open to the public thanks to approximately 1,200 volunteers and financial support obtained through fundraising, grants, and donations.

I love that Camperdown Elm shot – wonderfully fanciful.
A disgruntled gardener tried to kill it by girdling it with a chainsaw after getting fired. The tree didn’t seem to flinch.
Oh no! Glad the tree wasn’t hurt.
I saw the damage many years ago, and could not figure out how the tree was not seriously hurt by it.
Amazing.
That first door is magnificent. I like the fact that it’s open yet you can see the details.
It is quite the beauty. A perfect entrance to the gardens.
That garden house is absolutely gorgeous especially with the weathered brick and moss showing its age.
Indeed. Nature’s touch adds a lovely patina to the brick facade.
Beautiful photos
Thank you, Alice.
you’re very welcome
This looks like such a pretty visit! It is on my list should I return to Cali in the future. The tulips make me sad…as much as I adore them I cannot grow them at my house because the deer DEVOUR them. Sadly I will not waste another cent on these gorgeous bulbs but enjoyed looking at your inspiring pics!
Filoli’s Gardens feeds my soul. I get my garden fix there. We also can’t grow many flowers because of deer. I hope you do get to visit Filoli next time you are in Cali. Cheers!
